Kids can have all-day fun at Fourth of July Festival
Kids of all ages can look forward to all-day fun at Lexington ’s Fourth of July Festival this year.
A petting zoo and pony rides, inflatables, crafts and entertainment – much of it free – will be provided from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 3, in downtown Lexington .
A free Kids Zone will be set up in the Billboard parking lot on the corner of Short and Limestone Streets with inflatables and games.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Fayette Cooperation Nursery School and Kindergarten, Inc., will offer free craft activities in the Billboard lot.
Meanwhile, BRIK City , an activity that teaches building skills, will be set up in Phoenix Park from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. It is sponsored by the American Institute of Architects’ East Kentucky Chapter.
In the Billboard lot, entertainment aimed at youngsters will be featured from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free entertainment includes a magician and Disney Princess songs.
Carnival games, a swinging ship ride, pony rides and a petting zoo will all be in the Centrepointe block surrounded by Main , Vine, Limestone and Upper streets.
There will be a multitude of vendors this year selling kid crafts, toys and food in Phoenix Park , Courthouse Plaza , the Centrepointe block, along Short Street , and at Cheapside Park . Wares range from t-shirts and balloons to silly bands and child-size UK clothing.
Most of the entertainment will break at 2 p.m. for the parade, which this year will go down Main Street from Midland Avenue to Broadway. The entertainment will resume about 3:30 p.m. at six different downtown locations: Upper Courthouse Plaza , Billboard lot, Centrepointe lot, Main Street side of Cheapside Park , History Museum on Short Street , and Phoenix Park .
