Kids can have all-day fun at Fourth of July Festival
Kids of all ages can look forward to all-day fun at Lexington ’s Fourth of July Festival this year.

A petting zoo and pony rides, inflatables, crafts and entertainment – much of it free – will be provided from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 3, in downtown Lexington .

A free Kids Zone will be set up in the Billboard parking lot on the corner of Short and Limestone Streets with inflatables and games.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Fayette Cooperation Nursery School and Kindergarten, Inc., will offer free craft activities in the Billboard lot.

Meanwhile, BRIK City , an activity that teaches building skills, will be set up in Phoenix Park from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. It is sponsored by the American Institute of Architects’ East Kentucky Chapter.

In the Billboard lot, entertainment aimed at youngsters will be featured from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free entertainment includes a magician and Disney Princess songs.

Carnival games, a swinging ship ride, pony rides and a petting zoo will all be in the Centrepointe block surrounded by Main , Vine, Limestone and Upper streets.

There will be a multitude of vendors this year selling kid crafts, toys and food in Phoenix Park , Courthouse Plaza , the Centrepointe block, along Short Street , and at Cheapside Park . Wares range from t-shirts and balloons to silly bands and child-size UK clothing.

Most of the entertainment will break at 2 p.m. for the parade, which this year will go down Main Street from Midland Avenue to Broadway. I’ve been a bit busy! I guess there’s just too many great things to do!

I did go to the Stock Dog Trials and the Sheep and Fiber Festival where I fell in love with some baby alpacas and vowed to own some. Ahh, then I’ll have time to blog regularly!

If you are looking for something to do THIS Saturday, my dear friend Ashley sent me this link: http://www.ket.org/kidsandfamilies/

From the website:
Make plans now to join the Big Red Dog as KET and Spindletop in Lexington co-host a free KET Family Fun Club event Saturday, May 22 from noon to 3 p.m. Be sure to bring a camera for the day’s events, which include Clifford visiting with the children, crafts, and games.

Thanks Ashley!!

Well, this week got a little busy.  Sorry I didn’t have more posts for you!  This coming week is full of so much to do, I’m not sure how to decide!  Here’s just a taste.

Monday is the Jack and the beanstalk puppet show at Central Library.  It’s going to be at all the libraries throughout the week so if you can’t make that one, check out the calendar and find one that will work.

Also on Monday is the Bluegrass Babywearing monthly meeting at Baby Moon.  I always want to go, they feature a different carrier each month and help you wear your baby.  I need to learn how to wear my little guy on my back and I know this is the place to learn…you know without dropping the baby.

And the Northside Library is having Day of the Child.

Whew!  I can’t even imagine what Tuesday will look like!

Remember when I told you about the stock dog trials ar Masterson Station park next week?  Well I went back to the site and read the last paragraph (oops) and there is also the first Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival going on!  There are vendors, workshops and food.  All local and oh so exciting (if you know me, you know I’m barely containing myself at the thought of all that yummy wool roving and yarn…oh!  and meeting the people who spun and dyed it…I can’t wait!)

It’s $3 for adults, 12 and under are free!

There’s still room in lots of the workshops.  They look so great and are fantastic prices.  I may have to learn to spin my own yarn…

Jen let me in on this exciting event!  (Everyone clap for Jen.)

The Explorium has Parenting Speakers coming in to give free lectures.  It says that the Explorium is open and staffed for the kids of the attendees.  Does that mean they get in free as well?  I called and unfortunately, they are closed.  I’ll call in the morning to let you know.

In the meantime, click the link above to learn more.

The series begins this Thursday from 6:30-7:45.  You do need to be registered.  Call Sarah Chamberlain at 859-258-3253, ext. 11.

Thursday, May 6th The Living Arts and Science Center is having a Discovery Night from 6-8.  It’s called Mammal Skull Mystery with special STARLAB Planetarium shows.  There is a suggested donation of $1 for kids 5-11 and $2 for 12 and up.

Saturday, May 8, Central Library is having Mother’s Day activities.  Call (859) 231-5534 to register.  While you’re at it, register for the Jack and the Beanstalk puppet show on May 10 at 10:00 am.

Don’t forget to tell me about any kids eat free deals you know of.  I’m going to call and confirm these deals this week.
